Iteration
Not sure what to say here, other than to point out how much my site has changed. The first versions, which are in older posts, were significantly worse looking than this one. It’s clear i’ve learned something, but i’ve got a way to go.
Usability
During this, after I had a decent mock up of my site working, I realized that my nav structure wouldn’t work. I found that my initial idea to have the main nav highlighted to indicate page, would not work on the pages with sub nav. This was a usability problem that lead to a better nav and id system. So now their is a page indicator that appears at the top of the sub nav, and in the same location when sub nav is not their.
6 Prototyping
My first version of this website was really glitchy. I had some coding mistakes that were causing the page to jump around alot. This took a lot of time to try and resolve, ultimately it was a quick fix suggested by Jamie that fixed the major jumping pages problem. Slicing the images was the easiest part of this process. relearning how to create a three col structure took time.
Interface
Early on My interface consisted of main nav tags (bookmark tabs as concept) on the top and a mirroring of that would
appear on the side where applicable. My first version had the main nav acting as a marker for what page you were on. The page your on would have it’s tab in the down state. This of course would not work for drill down pages. So the current page became a marker that would be to the left of the main nav in the left column. The sub nav also lost its tab like quality in favor for plain type. This i feel helps to make the main nav more important.
#1 define the audience
The audience of my web site is fans of the pod cast and likely they are comedy nerds. In many ways I am the demographic of the site. I’ve been to one of the of the live shows, and saw lots of me’s walking around. I think the demographic is technically inclined, and likely familiar with blogs. Probably early twenties to mid thirties, and prominently men.
